Classictone 20W Tubes top
What makes guitar amps from the past so sought after?
Could it be the looks? The sound? Or maybe it's both?
When designing the new classic amplifiers, Koch certainly thought of both: the Koch Classictone II series! It's clear that some iconic tube amplifiers have been looked at, because the new series consists of four classic tube amplifiers equipped with EL84 power tubes for a warm sound with great overdrive.
Calling a new product a classic may seem a bit strong, but it's hard to deny that they've achieved that with these new 20 and 40 watt amplifiers.
The looks of this head version are certainly vintage and Koch has managed to recreate the sound of yesteryear in the combo and head models, both of which are available in a 20 watt and a 40 watt version. We opted for the 20 watt version. Handy for home and on stage, you can open the amp completely so that it comes into its own 100%.
Much of the classic sound comes from the EL84 power tubes that deliver a typically crystal clear, bell-like high. Overdriven, the tubes lean heavily towards a vintage British sound. This gives the Koch Classictone II series amplifiers the beautiful combination of a warm clean in combination with a heavy overdrive, complete with characteristic 'singing' overtones and a healthy dose of compression.
The front panel features a master volume setting, so you can fully enjoy tube compression whether you're at home, in the studio or on stage. The switch acts as an attenuator and with a precisely responsive equalizer spread across the three channels, the sound never becomes thick or muddy, no matter which setting is chosen.
What a masterful amp the Classictone II is and we invite you to come and test this amp! This combo is an asset to any guitarist.
KCC112 60 watts
You can connect the Classictone II to various speaker cabinets. Of course you can discuss the options with us. We opted for the awesome KCC variant. Why? Small, compact, light and a sound to die for: home, studio and stages.
The Koch KCC112 cabinet packs an impressive low-end punch for its size, thanks to a front-ported, closed-back design and a great-sounding 12" VG12 60 speaker that can handle up to 60 watts of power. It was developed as an expansion speaker cabinet for guitar amplifiers such as the Jupiter, Studiotone and Twintone III Combos and Heads.
You can plug any head or amp into the 1 x 12" cab, and you'll be amazed at the huge tones you get. This cab is made from high-quality 11-ply birch plywood with wood-to-wood joints, which provide the enhancing tonality while providing the rock-solid reliability you need on the road or in the studio. Covered in stylish (and sturdy) black vinyl, the KCC 112 closed-back cabinet complements virtually any installation.
